While there are plenty of ways to spend the warm seasons, music festivals have arisen as one of the most popular. With their tendency toward thrumming bass, rhythmic vibes and an anything-goes atmosphere, they’re like microcosms of the whimsy of summer. Whether you’re a music festival veteran or have yet to attend one, here are some national music festivals to keep on your calendar in 2016.
Lightning in a Bottle
When: May 25 – 30
Where: Bradley, CA
Sometimes referred to as “Burning Man’s little brother,” Lightning in a Bottle started as a private birthday party in 2004. The festival has since expanded and, after hopping around several venues in Southern California, landed in the out-of-the-way Bradley, CA. Considered more of a transformational event than a music festival, you can expect a sense of community, good vibes, under-the-stars camping, and crazy costumes. That said, the lineup for this year is worthy of any mainstream festival.
Lollapalooza
When: July 28 – 31
Where: Chicago, IL
Lollapalooza: four days, endless music. This annual festival features huge artists from a range of genres: alternative rock, metal, punk, hip-hop, EDM, you name it. Located in Grant Park in Chicago, this festival will feature over 170 bands across 8 stages in 2016. This is a back-to-the-hotel-room-at-the-end-of-the-day type festival, those who want to go hard and shower afterwards will be pleased to know.
Governors Ball
When: June 3 – 5
Where: Randall’s Island Park, NYC
With 2016 headliners such as The Strokes, The Killers, and Kanye West, music lovers have an easy summer destination: Governors Ball. Despite its proximity to New York City, the venue is plenty green and spacious. With an eclectic-yet-talented lineup, Governors Ball is one of the best summer music festivals on the East Coast.
Camp Bisco
When: July 14 – 16
Where: Scranton, PA
As its name implies, Camp Bisco involves several music-filled nights beneath the star-spangled velvet of Pennsylvania’s sky. With its focus on electronic music and its sub-genres, this year’s lineup probably won’t appeal to those whose ears are more in tune with acoustic sounds. That said, if you’re an EDM lover looking for a lovely setting to camp and party, Camp Bisco is a solid bet.
Bonnaroo
When: June 9 – 12
Where: Great State Park, Manchester, Tennessee
Bonnaroo is a four-day music festival that features music from nearly every genre, from indie rock to bluegrass to pop to electronica. (Don’t believe us? Just check out the lineup.) With idyllic camping and regular contributions to charities, including Doctors Without Borders and the Sierra Club. There are also comedy tents and other events for when the four days of music gets a bit heavy.
These five music festivals are amazing, but they hardly scrape the surface of what’s available. If you enjoy this type of event, keep your eye out for anything happening locally. If you do make it out of town for one of these, don’t join the rest of the crowds at a hotel. Luxury vacation rentals are easy, private, and fully furnished, perfect for cleaning up and kicking back after a long day of dancing. Contact PC Housing today to learn more!
