Studying a language abroad is a fantastic way of getting a better understanding of a language and culture. For those of you who have tackled languages before, you will know that there is no better way of improving your language skills than by speaking to fluent speakers of the language itself.
Whilst studying abroad may seem like a frightening prospect, the initial fright you might experience will give way to enjoyment and experience. England and the United States, for example, are two of the most common places for people to study abroad, as the English language is very valuable in the world of business. You may have taken an IELTS course recently and may want to advance your skills further, or you may be a newcomer to the English language who wants to take an IELTS course to prove their language knowledge; either way, studying abroad is an unbelievable experience which will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Many schools, colleges and universities offer you the opportunity to study abroad. Here we will give you 5 reasons why you should seize the opportunity with open arms.
Experience the culture
Every country has its own culture, whether the home residents realize it or not. In fact, cultures can sometimes be better understood by tourists and people visiting from abroad because the difference is more obvious. If you took an IELTS course in England, for example, you would get to experience some of England’s domestic delights, such as fish and chips, William Shakespeare and the Premier League. Whilst the English cuisine may not have the romantic reputation of countries like France or Italy, it is certainly full of flavor and thoroughly enjoyed by English people! The same goes for the United States: both English and American cultures are, in reality, a mix of many different cultures, especially depending on which area you select to do your studying in, so do not be surprised to see shops and restaurants tailored towards different nationalities and people.
Meet new people
When studying abroad you are likely to be exposed to two main types of people; people like you who are studying and natives who want to help you to learn the language. By studying abroad, you will meet many new friends who will stay with you for life. But you won’t just meet new people from your host country, you will meet people from all over the world who are in the same place as you for a number of reasons – making these types of friends opens up your world traveling opportunity.
Job Prospects
Studying abroad can open up a whole new channel of job opportunities for you. You may be able to find part-time work around your studies which can further your understanding of the language and introduce you to the economy of your host country. Alternatively, many courses will offer you work experience while you study. Many IELTS courses, for example, allow international students to gain work placements within English companies. Having gained this experience, your chances of finding jobs abroad in the future are significantly increased. Saying that you have studied abroad is also a good thing to put on your resume as it proves that you are adventurous and responsible.
Cost
The cost of studying a language in a country which already speaks it is likely to be lower than if you were to study it at home. There are such a high number of companies providing IELTS and similar courses in England and the United States, making the pricing very competitive. You can also make use of native speakers who are offering additional tuition if you require and your host family, if you stay with one. Studying a foreign language from your own country is usually more expensive, although this depends on the language and the country you are from. Staying in corporate housing is another great option for study travel – you can live in a community with natives and experience what daily life is like.
Travel and life experiences
Be adventurous! Studying a language abroad is a challenge, but is one which is highly rewarding. Alongside studying, you will get the chance to try new things and visit new places. It is a fantastic opportunity to get some real life experience and find a sense of independence. Spending time away from your family can be tough, but you will be a much more mature person as a result and have endless stories to tell your friends and family back home.
Studying abroad is a fantastic way to meet new people, enjoy a new culture and improve your language skills. Wherever you choose to study, you will without a shadow of a doubt have one of the best times of your life and make friends who will stay with you for the rest of your life. Studying abroad is an opportunity which you may only have while you are young, so do not miss out and regret it for the rest of your life!
