Greetings fellow road warriors, this week we came across a great article from CNN that discusses why so many business travelers are choosing to fore go traditional hotels and book stays in furnished apartments or other alternative lodgings.
The common theme among many of the traveling professionals interviewed seemed to be the familiarity and comfort that comes with amenities such as a full kitchen.
“I almost exclusively stay in places I find through (corporate housing) services,” says grant writer and frequent business traveler Ron Flavin, “The reason I do this is to stay fit. Staying in an apartment with a kitchen makes it easy for me to prepare healthy meals.”
We’ve recently covered how to stay fit on the road, and having the option to prepare your own meals and avoid costly, and ultimately less healthy, dining out is huge on an extended business stay.
Traditional hotels remain the most popular choice for most corporate stays and conventions, but it’s clear there is a movement towards accommodating the personal needs of employee’s to increase happiness and production.
According to Amanda Cook, director of membership and marketing for the Corporate Housing Providers Association, “Corporate housing is … specific to [clients’] unique needs and reduces stress for the user, which in turn makes them more productive at their jobs.”
Miss Cook is spot on. Professional pit musician and serious road warrior Mark Mule says “Living in hotels can be very depressing…Corporate and vacation rentals are homes. This is good for your head.”
We would love to hear about your experiences with corporate apartments and other alternative lodging options. Check us out on Facebook or leave us a comment below and weigh in on the discussion!
