Business travel can be an exhausting experience, especially for the newbie. As the experienced business traveler knows, routine is the keystone of a successful trip. By routine, we mean routine in preparation. To this end, here are a few tips gathered from veteran travelers to help make your business trip prep easier.
- Make a copy of your credit cards, travel docs, passport, etc, and leave it at home. Good if you lose your wallet.
- Make a list of the numbers you have to call to cancel credit cards if you lose your wallet.
- Print out and keep with you directions from the airport to your hotel or corporate housing and the meeting site (whether it be a business, convention center, what have you).
- Pack all necessary power cords and chargers for your digital appliances (mobile phone, laptop).
- If you’re taking a checked bag and a carry-on, include an extra set of clothing, if possible, in your carry-on. If your checked bag ends up in Luxembourg, you’ll still have a set for business meetings. Keep your toiletries in your carry-on for the same reason.
- Email a copy of your itinerary and important business numbers to yourself. This means you’ll always have access to those docs as long as you can get to a computer with Internet access.
These are just a start. Add to this list (and you will) as you see fit.
