Relocating for Work

Relocating for a job can be many things. It can be exciting if you’re the type that loves to be in new cities all the time. It can be a real drag if this is your fifth time moving in the past year, and you’re a homebody. But some professionals experience relocation way more than usual. If you’re in one of these fields, be prepared to move to advance your career.

Military Personnel

This category is practically a given. If you’re in the military or you work for the military, chances are you’ll move pretty frequently. There are bases all over the country, and you’ll probably wind up at a couple. On the plus side, your moving expenses will probably mostly be covered. According to the U.S. Army, you’ll usually be a given a travel allowance so it won’t end up costing you too much money. The Army also offers a relocation readiness program to help soldiers and families as they make the transition.

Athletes

Just like your favorite star players end up switching teams every so often (hello LeBron James), an athlete will tend to move around as they slowly build their careers. From the farm teams all the way to the pros, an athletic career is usually created all over the country.

Hospitality

Anyone who works in restaurants, hotels or with a travel company will probably end up hopping around to take different jobs. On the plus side, you may end up abroad working at another’s country’s top eateries. And if you work in hotels or travel, you probably enjoy traveling so it’s a great match.

Nursing

Although this profession doesn’t necessarily instantly come to mind when we think of travel jobs, traveling nurses fits the bill. These nurses fly around the country to fill in at hospital and clinics to help with the nursing shortage. They work temporary assignments until they move on to their next job.

Communicators/Entertainers

Journalists, radio personalities, actors and other creative professionals often have to move around a lot when they’re establishing their careers, especially when they’re first starting out. These fields are competitive and it can often be easier for a professional to make it in a smaller market.

Flight Attendant

Flight attendants spend most of their time in the air and can relocate on a whim. Those who can’t get enough time on the road and who enjoy customer service will love being a flight attendant.

All that moving around means that signing a lease is probably not your best housing option. Consider temporary housing from PC Housing for luxurious and convenient places to stay all over the country.
