While most of America thinks that Seattle is cloudy, rainy, and generally miserable all year long, those who have been in summer know better. Yeah, Seattle does have its fair share of cloudy days, but Seattle also has some of the best summers in the country and is surrounded by beautiful scenery and outdoor activities. That means that when July and August rolls around, it’s time to take a trip to Seattle to experience all of the fun things you can to do outdoors there. Here are super fun outdoor activities in Seattle when the weather is nice:

Go Hiking
When you’re somewhere as beautiful as the Pacific Northwest, it’s not surprising that there are so many great hikes to be found near Seattle. You can head off in pretty much any direction and you’ll find a great hike. For an unforgettable view of Mount Rainier, try hiking Skyscraper Pass in the Mt. Rainier National Park. Kayak Everywhere
Being surrounded by water means that Seattle is the optimal place to go kayaking. You can easily rent a kayak from places such as Ballard Kayak. From there you can either take a guided kayak tour (which Ballard Kayak also offer), or head out for your own private kayak adventure. If you do plan on going off on your own, Alki Beach and Lake Washington are the best places to get spectacular views of the Seattle skyline and the Cascade Mountains.
Take a Ferry Ride
If kayaking sounds a bit too strenuous, you can still easily get out on the water by taking a ferry trip from downtown Seattle. One of the most popular routes for tourists is the easy 35-minute trip to Bainbridge island. On the way you can expect amazing views looking back to Seattle and endless views around the Puget Sound. Plus once you arrive at the beach town of Winslow, you can walk around, shop, and visit the quaint restaurants dotted around the town.
Catch a Mariners Game
Summer sun and a gorgeous downtown stadium mean that catching a Seattle Mariners game when it’s nice out is one of the best things you can do outdoors in Seattle. Plus if you want to sit in the bleachers, the tickets cost as little as $12. That leaves plenty of room in your budget for a Seattle dog (or two) and a nice cold drink.
Watch an Outdoor Movie
After the 4th of July, when summer really gets going, outdoor cinemas pop up all across Seattle. What better way of ending a long day of fun in the Seattle sun doing all the other activities we’ve talked about than catching a movie under a starry night sky? We recommend Fremont’s outdoor cinema as our favorite place to catch a movie outside, but the Seattle Center is also a great option for outdoor movies.
Despite its reputation, Seattle is an amazing place to have fun outdoors. From hiking to outdoor movies, there is so much to do and see outside in Seattle. And when you feel like coming back indoors for a warm bed, consider staying in the best vacation rentals in Seattle instead of a normal hotel.
