If you’ve never quite been the international jetsetter you’ve wanted to be, you’ve got 365 days to become one in 2017. You can make the most of it while still not blowing your budget. Here are a few 2017 New Year’s travel resolutions to help you save travel dollars.

Buy Cheaper Flights

Of course, we all wouldn’t mind buying our flights on the cheap in 2017, and any other year. But it’s easier than you might think.

Contrary to popular belief, there’s no day of the week when flights tend to be the cheapest to make your purchase. There are cheaper days to actually fly on, though — Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Set alerts so you get regular updates on the rise and fall of ticket prices for an upcoming trip you’re planning. This way, you can follow the pricing trends and jump at the right time before the price heads skyward for good.

Oh, and don’t forget that sometimes it’s a lot cheaper to buy two separate one-way tickets — each with a different airline — instead of buying a round-trip ticket.

We discussed these and a handful of other tips to help you save on flights in a previous blog post.

Stay Current on Currency

If you’re planning a trip overseas, it’s important that you stay up on fluctuations in the global market and the currency in the places you want to visit. When currencies rise and fall, so do travel costs. For example, this past summer saw Brexit make the U.K. a particularly attractive travel destination.

The window of that opportunity is long gone, but 2017 is a new year with new opportunities. Make sure you see them when they come.

Go Grocery Shopping

Eating out is a nice treat, but it gets expensive. If there’s a kitchen where you’re staying, make a trip to a grocery store and stock up on food so you don’t find yourself heading to a restaurant every time you’re hungry.

Not only will this help you save money; it’s also a great opportunity to check out a local farmer’s market or an ethnic grocery store to get some new experiences during your stay.

Don’t Bother With Hotels on Long Trips

If you’re going to be gone for awhile, it’s financially impractical to stay at a hotel — not to mention not very home-y, either. Why not make an actual home your base of operations while you’re in a new city?

At PC Housing, we offer short- and long-term home rentals for business travelers across the U.S. and Canada. With all the options we have available, we can definitely find a home for you.
