Owning a company is one of the most stressful things a person can be involved in today, but some of the stress can be alleviated by relocating your business to a pro-business city. As a business continues to expand in not only the number of employees but also in revenue, it will need to relocate is headquarters and some of its branch offices to larger buildings. Instead of just relocating to a larger office space in the same city, the business should perform research about other cities in the country as to how business-friendly they are.
A growing business should consider moving to a city where there are Fortune 500 businesses already operating there because they have a track record of success and by example the companies like the city because they have moved there. Some cities in the United States, such as Irving, Texas, has a plethora of features for businesses that want to operate in the city. Some of those features include some of the lowest municipal property tax rates in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, property tax reduction by 30 percent or more for ten years for relocating businesses, and incentive agreements are available for higher benefits in the early stages of the abatement period.
Other cities across the country will invest money in businesses relocating to their city in order to help create new jobs, which in turn improves the economy of that specific city. As with any business thinking about relocating to a new city, the employees of the company will have plenty of questions about the process and their lives. Some of those questions include the following:
- Where will my family live?
- Where will my children go to school?
- What type of entertainment is around the city?
- What are the crime statistics of the city?
- What are the cultural opportunities presented by the city?
Be sure you have answers to all of these questions and more before telling your employees that the company will be relocating to a new city. This will make the relocation more positive amongst your employees and easier to grasp for the majority of them. One way to make the process very easy to accept is to open a large office in the city a couple of years prior to the relocation of your headquarters, where you can get the company up and running in advance of the switch. Then, set your employees up with San Diego corporate housing or furnished apartments in the new pro-business city you’ve chosen so they can experience firsthand if the new city is a right fit before making a permanent move.
