Being asked to move from your current home to a new residence because of your job can be a very difficult decision to make. Job relocation is never fun because you will need to find a new home, find new schools for your children, and have the finances for the move. Make Sure of Finances
Before you can even tell your boss that you will relocate you must make sure that you can afford to do so, even if the company is providing some of the money. You will need enough money for a new home, a mortgage, expenses, and an emergency stash of money to use before the paychecks start arriving from your new location.
Keep in Touch
After you have moved, make sure you keep in touch with coworkers from your former office. This will help you feel more comfortable at the new location while also keeping a piece of ‘home’ with you frequently.
Discard and Pack
Packing all of your belongings for a major move, especially for a job relocation, can be a very daunting task. Before you begin packing items into boxes and onto a truck, go through all of your belongings and get rid of items you no longer need or do not have to room in the truck to bring with you for the move.
Find New Place
If at all possible, search for your new residence in person prior to moving for the job. It’s a great idea to secure San Diego corporate housing or temporary accommodations wherever you plan on moving while you search for a more permanent setting. Having a real estate agent or friend look at places for you is not the same as looking at the residences in person. Being in person helps you get the feel of the residence and determine whether or not it is right for you and your family.
Learn the Neighborhood
During your stay in the new city when searching for a new home, be sure you browse around to learn the neighborhood. This will help you become acquainted with the shops, supermarkets, barber shops and much more.
Expand Network
Once you are all moved in to your new place be sure you expand your network of acquaintances and friends. This will help you become familiar with the area and make you feel more at home.
Hobbies
After you are unpacked and all settled in your new home, take up some hobbies to keep you busy before the job begins. You can join a gym, take classes, or attend sporting events.
