A smartphone bursting with business travel apps.

Planning and managing a trip, be it for business or vacation, can be a juggling act. You have to book flights and reservations, check baggage, retrieve baggage, be at certain places at specific times, and keep track of all necessary information (like possible delays and other unforeseen changes and updates). There are so many moving pieces that trying to keep up with all of them can be overwhelming. Fortunately, your cell phone can help you simplify the entire process with the aid of a few apps. There are many useful apps already in popular use, like TripIt and Guidebook, but even more comprehensive business travel apps are on the way!

Before the age of the internet, travel agents were responsible for making your trip as smooth as possible. Now it’s up to you. Virgin America has just launched a new app that will help you do just that, which is currently in beta and expected to go public at the end of August.

With this app, you get the easy usability of a desktop web experience, plus much more. It’s designed to give you the support you’d get from a travel agent in the palm of your hand. The app gives you extra layers of functionality in notifications, security, and ease, while the focus is on speed and personalization.

The Virgin app also reduces the number of steps required in order to accomplish your travel goals. Everything from booking a flight to boarding a plane and checking baggage is streamlined. The app keeps you informed of delays and tells you where you should be and when. The information comes to you.

Virgin America is inviting interested Android and iOS users to participate in the beta test. Sign up if you don’t want to wait!

Soon you’ll be able to have Google as your travel assistant. Google has been developing an all-in-one travel app that will combine resources to make every aspect of your trip go smoothly. Currently available on beta through invitation-only, Google Trips blends features like maps, flight search, travel guides, and more.

This app embodies the word “comprehensive,” and will give you complete control over the travel planning process. Users will be able to use the app offline, and opt to allow the app to mine their Gmail account for information like itineraries and reservations. It will then provide you with a complete overview of your trip, pairing travel information with city guide suggestions, including things to do and attractions to see.

Though there’s still no confirmation on the date of its public release, keep your ears open — this app will probably revolutionize how you travel!

Avis Now is the recently updated Avis app. The changes were made in order to give you more control over the entire car rental experience. You can now start the process without checking in at the counter. Once checked in, you can easily switch vehicles by swiping and choosing another one. The app lets you view what’s available in the fleet, in real-time, and you can easily upgrade to an SUV if you desire.

Once your rental period starts, you can use the app to lock or unlock doors, extend the rental period, and request assistance. Avis can also send you important messages and provide help, keeping Avis in communication with renters at all times.

The app is available for download on both iOS and Android platforms, and renters must sign up with the free Avis Preferred program in order to use the Avis Now features.
