Summer’s end is just a few short weeks away. And if you haven’t taken a vacation yet, there’s still time.  These destinations are ideal to visit during the late summer—weather and expense-wise. From chowing down on some of the best fried chicken in the country to seeing breathtaking vistas in the Southwest, you’re sure to have a great time. So, hit the road and soak up the sun before it’s gone.

End of Summer Vacation Destinations

Vancouver, British Columbia

If you’d like to cross the border without traveling too far, consider heading to Vancouver, British Columbia. This seaside town beckons with mild temps, glittering water views and a killer outdoors scene. Visit Stanley Park to soak up the scenery. If you’re looking for (minor) thrills, head to Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. This 450-feet long bridge sways back and forth as you cross a river. It might sound scary, but it’s mostly just fun.

Salt Lake City

This small mountain town has plenty to offer travelers. For one thing, it’s a very clean and affordable city that makes it ideal for families. Consider starting your day at quaint European bakery Eva’s before you wander around Temple Square—an idllyic place to spend the afternoon. After you’ve taken your photos, head up to the Capitol Building to snap more shots. When your photography skills have been exhausted, consider heading at Italian spot Bambara. Try to the signature blue cheese chips or top-notch trout. Consider finishing your day with sweeping Southwest views. Head to Red Butte Garden for the beautiful flowers, and finish your day with a stop at the Natural History Museum of Utah. From the top floor, you’ll enjoy incredible views of the entire city and will fall head over heels for Salt Lake City.

Nashville

Music City is the place to be. The food’s scene is hot, the music is even hotter and the whole town is bathed in Southern charm. For a taste of history, start at The Hermitage—one of the oldest hotels in the country. After your history lesson, soak up the music scene. Head to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, visit legendary RCA Studio B where greats like Dolly Parton have recorded or The Bluebird Café to see where superstars like Taylor Swift and Garth Brooks got their starts. To try some of the best of what the city has to offer, consider hitting up Hattie B’s Hot Chicken or Husk for tasty, Southern eats.

Portland, Oregon

Oregon’s largest city is a food’s lovers dream come true. The city’s craft beer scene is top-notch, coffee is of paramount importance to the City of Roses, the food trucks are hoppin’ and home to the arguably the nation’s most famous donut shop: Voodoo Doughnuts. But aside from the food, there’s a lot to see. Head to Mt Tabor Park for the views. Or consider walk along the Willamette River or just bring a picnic and bask in the sunlight.
