Word is spreading like wildfire. Corporate and common folks alike are driving the furnished rental market through the roof in New York City, according to New York Magazine. Though business travelers tend to account for much of our clientele base, we truly believe there is a benefit to renting furnished apartments for more than just the road warrior crowd and we’ve got the reports to back it up.

It’s no secret that we here at PC Housing are huge proponents of the comfort and ease that a furnished apartment provides compared to drab and impersonal hotels. It’s great to hear that everyone else is catching on, and for what we believe is with good reason.

A Stunning Furnished Apartment in New York City

“The market is responding. The number of furnished rentals reached a peak this past quarter, with 1,890 listings in Manhattan alone. (In the same period of 2008, there were 827.)” Reports NY Magazine journalist S.Jhoanna Robles, “fully furnished apartments are proliferating there, too. Available inventory in 2011 has increased fivefold since 2008—and the year’s not over yet.”

The article cites a slow real estate market and stumbling economy as major factors contributing to the need to both lease one’s own residence as well as consider the option as a lessee.

“Many of the takers are newcomers on temporary assignment—there are more of those lately, as people who are out of work take what they can get”

“Some…expect to buy but want to take their time and know they can afford to, given the stagnant sales market”.

Whether a contract employee or an executive on an 8 week assignment, it seems that short-term housing is fast  becoming the preferred choice of stay for many. And why not? Many of the locations are in desirable neighborhoods and provide a place to get established in a new city without the hassle of worrying about furnishings or signing a year long+ lease.

Planning a long-term stay in New York in the near future? We’ve got options all over town, and can have you set up comfortably in no time. Everyone else is doing it. It’s time to find out what the fuss is all about.
