The new year ushers in new beginnings galore. Not only do you get to buy a brand-new calendar, you also get to start over with promises to yourself. These resolutions can be both big and small. Stick to a fitness routine. Resolve to finally clean out the garage. Buy a house. Travel to Cambodia.
And when it comes to traveling for work, you probably could stand to make a few more promises to yourself. Maybe you always forget a hairbrush. Perhaps you always leave a few items behind in your hotel room. No matter what, these travel resolutions will help you have better trips. Enjoy!
I will not over pack
Do you really need five pair of shoes? No, you don’t. Be honest with yourself about what you’ll have to wear all week. It helps if you plan your outfits carefully. Pick versatile pieces that will work with most things (whether that’s a neutral pair that goes with your entire wardrobe or a flashy pair of statement shoes to accessorize a standard outfit) to keep your luggage light.
I will not wait until the last minute to pack
One of the easiest ways to forget key items is by packing the night before you leave. Make like Santa to keep things simpler. And don’t forget to check it twice. Keep a running checklist on your smartphone (or download a template) so you don’t have to write it out every time.
I will bring a book and stop buying US Weekly at the airport
Traveling can be expensive. And extra magazines are a treat, but the expenses can really add up. Not to mention, reading gossip magazines won’t exactly help you escape fatigue on the plane. Bring your own publications to cut down on costs and keep your mind sharp.
I will use a luggage information tag
If your suitcase gets lost, a little piece of plastic complete with your address and contact information can go a long way. Don’t forget it – you won’t regret it! Plus, it can make your generic checked-in bag stand out in the carousel.
I will be loyal to an airline
If you really want to rack up frequent flier miles, you’ll want to stick to one airline. If you have a say in the matter, find an airline you like and stick with it and watch the rewards roll in.
I will stretch before and after a flight
Flying is rough on your body. You’re on that narrow, stiff seat, lifting your heavy luggage over your head, and you don’t have a ton of room to move around. To help prevent you from feeling achy, stretch before and after the flight to stay healthy.
I will stay in cozy, quality accommodations
If you’re used to booking business trips on the fly, chances are you’ve stayed at some not-so-stellar properties (we’re looking at you, Best Western!). If that’s the case, be sure to book your long-term stays with PC Housing. With locations across the country, you’re guaranteed to find a homey, cozy long-term dwelling that doesn’t feel like a stuffy hotel (because it isn’t).
Here’s to having a great year traveling in 2015! What are your other New Year’s Resolutions?
