Eugene is an awesome amalgamation of art and culture set against the lush greenery that Oregon is known for. No matter where you go, from trees to rivers to air to drinking water to pesticides, the locals care about the environment and are working hard to improve the conditions of the planet and you truly get a sense for the community spirit when strolling through town.
If you find yourself lucky enough to be traveling to Eugene on business or simply taking a siesta from the concrete jungle in one of our furnished apartments, as beautiful as they are, you’ll want to spend as much time as possible exploring the great outdoors right outside your window.
Between the (literally) hundreds of hiking, running and biking trails that wind through the town and surrounding parks we’ve narrowed down the biggest and best Butte’s (An isolated hill with steep sides and a flat top) to check out while in town:
Located just south of Downtown, Spencer’s Butte offers a mellow two mile trail to the summit with only 700 feet or so of climbing. A great intro for the less sure-footed among us.
Another great spot to work up a sweat, Skinner’s Butte is north of Downtown and is the original site of Eugene Skinner’s cabin (the same Eugene that the city is named after). It offers a gorgeous view of the city as well as the Cascade Mountains to the east. Weather permitting, the daring and truly adventurous can try their hand at some excellent rock climbing on the natural salt columns along the butte.
Not feeling the fitness bug? No problem, between the cozy art-house coffee shops and eco-friendly organic pizza delivered on two wheels there will be something for everyone in Eugene.
While it may be a bit off the beaten path, Eugene is truly a community of caring individuals who are dedicated to keeping their hometown green and “green.” Get in the spirit on your next visit!
