Recent surveys find that San Diego residents are finding more to be happy about the local economy and jobs picture. A survey by the San Diego Union Tribune revealed San Diegans haven’ t been this confident since September 2009.
More specifically, the article cited the following heartening statistics:
- 35 percent of respondents said business conditions will be better in six months, compared to 21 percent who say they will be worse.
- 35 percent said the job outlook will be better, compared to 15 percent who said it will be worse.
- 23 percent predicted their income would be higher, compared to 9 percent who said it would be lower. The combined number of those who think their income will be higher or about the same was the highest it has been since January.
Though consumer confidence is lower than historical averages, it’s all relative; taken as a whole, the numbers reflect a slightly more optimistic picture than in recent months.
According to economists, this optimism should infect the local economy, resulting in rosier numbers in the sales of durable goods, movement in corporate housing San Diego, and entertainment receipts in the coming year.
