The recovery of the U.S. economy throughout 2010 and into the current year has led to a resurgence of business travel. Companies are spending more on everything from corporate housing to airline flights. It is predicted that spending will increase 5% in 2011, twice the growth rate of the prior year.
A human resource or travel manager naturally has many concerns with regard to sending an employee across the country, especially across great distances and into unfamiliar territories. From corporate housing in San Diego to New York, where an employee will stay during their visit is equally as important as how they will get there.
The poor economy and technological communications have put a dent in corporate expenditures for business travel. However, electronic communications cannot match the quality of face-to-face interaction between real people. Sending people on the road shows vendors and customers they are valued and vital to the company.
Moving forward, frugality will continue to play an important role. Companies are looking for temporary housing that includes perks such as complimentary breakfast, on-site gyms, and free Internet. Airlines and rental car companies are likewise being asked to step up both amenities and service.
