Miami is the hot-spot in Florida for so many reasons. There is so much going on at all times in Miami that it can be a little overwhelming, even for locals. But whether you’re a tourist, business traveler, or a Miami native there are just some things that you can’t miss when you are in the city. While this list could have been much longer, we broke it down into these six things you have to do in Miami.

1) Take an Art Deco Walking Tour

Art Deco and Miami are synonymous with one another, and any trip to Miami wouldn’t be complete without getting a chance to see some of the best examples of Art Deco in the world. While you could take a DIY tour to save yourself some money using these maps provided by the Miami Design Preservation League, you can also take a guided tour from one of their knowledgeable tour guides as well. If you like a side of cocktails with your Art Deco, try these private Art Deco tours designed to make you feel like a VIP.

2) Hit the Beach

You’re in Miami where the sun is always shining and the water is always warm, how could you not go to the beach? With over a dozen white sand beaches just minutes from downtown Miami, you’re not short of options for places to lie out and enjoy the sun and surf.

3) Eat Your Fill of Stone Crab

Great news! It’s almost stone crab season in Miami, and there is no better place to eat your fill of this delicious delicacy than Joe’s Stone Crab. Joe’s is an old-school Miami institution that is famous for serving up the best stone crabs in the city. Just make sure to get there earlier than you’d think during stone crab season (October 15 – May 15), or any other time of the year either, because the waiting times here can be looooong. If it’s not stone crab season or you’re not in the mood for shellfish, make sure to try their amazing fried chicken as well.

4) Take an Airboat Through the Everglades

One of the most memorable things you can do in Miami is actually getting out of the city and hopping on an airboat through the Everglades. By taking an airboat you can speed through one of the world’s most unique ecosystems seeing alligators, snakes, and birds you can’t see anywhere else (from a safe distance of course). Check out Coopertown Airboat for one of their original (and still the best) tours.

5) Get a Sub from Publix

California has In-n-Out and Florida has Publix as its staple fast food that the rest of the country is jealous of. Publix only uses freshly baked bread, Boar’s Head meats and cheeses, and veggies that are actually crisp and fresh. Plus, you can customize your sub to get exactly what you want on it no matter what you’re in the mood for. Pro tip: get the chicken tenders sub, it is the stuff of legends and you won’t regret it.

6) Enjoy the Miami Nightlife

Finally, you can’t go to Miami without experiencing at least a little of the famous Miami nightlife that helped make the city so famous. The best part of Miami nightlife is that it doesn’t all happen at night. Club Space is infamous for their afternoon parties and E11EVEN is open 24/7, so the party never has to stop. If clubbing isn’t for you, try just going out for cocktails in South Beach instead.
